A cute, but underwhelming set.

January 22, 2024This was my first lego advent calender. I purchased it at discount, after Christmas. I wasn't sure what to expect but I love Marvel and seing Spider-Man in a holiday sweater had me sold! Unfortunately, that seemed to be the highlight of the set. While I had fun opening everything at once, I couldn't help but feeling a little dissapointed after. Spider-Man along with Black Widow were the only characters to have holiday sweaters on. It seemed the "Marvel" and "Christmas" aspects were kept separate. Most days were either or but not both. I couldn't help but feel there were a lot of missed opportunities. Why did the Christmas tree stand come separate from the tree itself? Why was Wong (whom I couldn't even tell was Wong) with the Tesseract? Why was there a Loki throne but no Loki? Mjolnir but no thor? Okoye and Wong could have been swapped for Loki and Thor. That along with EVERY character having holiday themed clothing would have completely changed the experience. As I said before, I purchased this at discount, really wanting the Spider-Man sweater figure, so I wasn't too dissapointed. But if I had purchased this at full price and opened it day by day, wow I would be bummed. There are defintiely some highlights to this set. Spider-Man and Black Widow look great in their sweaters!! Spider-Man's golden webs were amazing! The Ironan snowman and reindeer were cool too. Then something cool like Dr.Strange's cloak, which is not just regular cloth but it's own unique piece, is overshadowed by the fact that it didn't come in a bag and it was separate from Strange himself. Also the mini hydra train was cool but then it should've been able to connect to itself. I will give next years calendar another try but I am honestly very hesitant about it.
Epitome of Lego's Greed

May 30, 2024This is literally the epitome of the greed of the Lego corporation. In truth, all the Christmas advent calendars are a rip-off, but this one takes the cake.
I believe there are 5 minifigures in here. That's criminally low for a $60 set. And in truth, this set is barely worth $25.
Some of the days were laughably bad. Wow! Doctor Strange's cape! What a great day.
Seriously Lego. Get it together and stop hosing customers, especially with the licensed sets. As it is I will not buy another Marvel set, and have vowed not to buy a Lego set in 2024 as a small protest to the shocking price increases, matched with the shockingly low piece counts.
Don't buy this set. Take the $60 and do something that is actually fun and rewarding and doesn't make you feel like you got ripped off.
Very disappointing for my child

December 24, 2023What was Lego thinking when they put together this advent? We’ve bought an advent set for our son for several years now and this set has been a complete disappointment. Half of the builds we had to look up to figure out what they were supposed to be since they had nothing to do with Marvel. A minifigure and its accessories were split into two days twice in this set. There’s a random hockey accessories set, a day with just a tree stand without a tree. The best build was a cool Loki throne but no Loki figure was ever included. The whole advent just felt extremely lazy.
This advent was not only a waste of money but a daily source of disappointment this holiday season. My kid has always loved Lego but this advent was so bad that he didn’t even bother putting a couple of the builds together because of how uninteresting and uncreative they were.
It seems that every year is hit or miss as far which advent theme will be great and which will fall short. The fact that Lego could possibly be the source of disappointment during the holiday season for an 8 year old is just crazy, we won’t be using a Lego advent next year.
Diminishing returns

December 11, 2023My partner and I always look forward to opening our advent calendars for the year. I'm a fan of the star wars sets, and she usually gets a marvel one.
This year, the disparity in quality between the two is honestly shocking. The marvel set is sadly lacking in both Minifigure quality and build quality. With close to 100 fewer pieces and days with borderline useless builds such as web accessories, and a single cape piece, the value for money and overall excitement to continue is really low.
Compared to previous years, the disappointment this brought my partner as she enviously eyes mine is sad to see. There's almost a complete lack of MCU related builds, such as iconic vehicles or imagery. Much of the Christmas builds come unwelcomed, as outside of the Christmas tree many don't fit within the marvel theme and are fairly uninspired.
I'd love to see future advent calendars with higher quality, because at this rate we're unlikely to buy another again.
